New T1 Construction Impacts
The Airport Authority is committed to keeping you informed throughout the New T1 construction process and working together to mitigate any potential impacts. Our goal is to make your travel experience and airport access as seamless as possible throughout construction. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.

Construction Underway: Airport Impacts
Construction of the New T1 has increased significantly at San Diego International Airport (SAN). There will be ongoing impacts to vehicle and pedestrian access near airport roadways.
Travelers should prepare for traffic congestion and delays when traveling to SAN. We recommend arriving curbside earlier than usual and using caution when traveling through the work area.
PLEASE BE ADVISED OF THE FOLLOWING CHANGES AT THE AIRPORT:
The Terminal 1 Ground Transportation Center is temporarily relocated through fall 2023 as crews install underground utilities. Travelers can access courtesy shuttles, Rental Car Center shuttles, taxis, and rideshares in the old Terminal 1 parking lot. Expect traffic congestion and delays especially from 4 a.m. to 6:15 a.m., 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and 8 p.m. to midnight, which are the busiest times curbside.
Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 recirculation on Airport Terminal Road is closed for construction of a new elevated roadway. Vehicles coming from Terminal 2 looking to access Terminal 1 will need to use the Downtown exit to N. Harbor Drive and follow detour signs. This detour will remain in effect until late 2025.

Parking at the Airport
Parking at SAN is limited, so we strongly encourage making parking reservations prior to your trip.
TERMINAL 1 LOT: The Terminal 1 Parking Lot is permanently closed to allow for the construction of the New T1 Parking Plaza, which is expected to open fall of 2024.
TERMINAL 2 LOT: The Terminal 2 West Parking Lot is no longer available to passengers (except those using the Cell Phone Lot). The only Terminal 2 parking is in the Terminal 2 Parking Plaza and a reservation is strongly recommended.

Getting To & From the Airport
There are more ways than ever to get to and from the airport with public transit, shuttles, taxis, or rideshare.
PUBLIC TRANSIT: There are several worry-free ways to get to and from SAN on public transit including COASTER trains, trolley service including the new Mid-Coast Trolley, and the MTS 992 and 923 bus routes.
SAN DIEGO FLYER: Try the free San Diego Flyer, an all-electric shuttle service between the Old Town Transit Center and SAN, and a convenient last-mile connection for passengers and airport employees using public transit.
LET SOMEONE ELSE DO THE DRIVING: There are many affordable, airport-permitted commercial transportation options including taxi, black car or van, rideshare, or CBX Shuttle. All of these drivers are very familiar with airport roadways and the latest construction impacts and can get you to and from the airport safely and efficiently.
